The current port use to be the commercial port of the ancient city of Aegina. Today is a busy cosmopolitan port with yachts and boats. The ferries and hydrofoils are docking towards the north side while at the promenade are most of the travel agencies where you can get your tickets for your journey.

The traffic of vehicles in the main port road is forbidden during the evenings of the summer months. There are many shops and tourist stops in the pedestrian streets of Aegina in the fishmarket you will find fresh fish in very reasonable prices, as a souvenir of Aegina try a clay pot which production was once famous in Aegina another product of the island are the pistachios . In the port you can visit the small white church of Agios Nikolaos.

Aegina was the first capital of modern Greece and during that time was the cosmopolitan centre of Greece. During this time where build some great mansions and buildings from the first governor of Greece Ioannis Kapodistrias. Those buildings you can admire today in Aegina. Some of those neoclassical mansions, today operate as lodgings. To the north of the city on the hill of Kolona is located the prehistoric city of Aegina and the Archaeological museum. From Aegina you can visit the near by island of Ankistri. For swim Aegina has many wonderful beaches in Perdika, Marathon and Agia Marina.

With a population of 17,000 inhabitants, Limnos is the eighth largest island of Greece with an area of 438 square kilometers. Located in the northern Aegean Sea, the Thracian Sea, between the Mount Athos, Samothrace, Imvros and Lesbos. Together with Agios Efstratios aparts the province of Limnos that belongs to the prefecture of Lesvos. Capital and main port of Lemnos is Myrina, named after the wife of the first king of the island, Thoantas. Until 1955 the Myrina was named Kastro, a name which prevailed during the late Byzantine period and even today is called informally by the locals.
Limnos island is volcanic. Although it has no forests, there are fertile plains cultivated with cereals and vines. Limnos has beautiful and clean beaches and is ideal for quiet vacations. The main occupations of the residents are livestock, agriculture and fisheries. Also, tourism, trade and shipping.

Ferry connections. The company Saos Ferries connecting the island with the Attica prefecture with three services a week to and from Lavrio (average duration of travel 9 hours). Schedules are also to and from Kymi, Agios Efstratios and Nea Moudania. Some greek ferries, however, do not run all year around so before travelling it would be wise to contact the local port authorities and travel agencies. Nel Lines connects with 2 services per week the island with Thessaloniki (8 hours), Mytilini (5 hours), Chios (8 hours), and Piraeus (18 hours). The summer duration of the voyage from Piraeus has been reduced, thanks to the fast M/V Aeolos Kenteris.

Limnos airport has the largest runway in Greece and is one of the biggest airports in the Aegean. There are two daily schedules of Olympic Airways to and from Athens and 6 times a week to and from Thessaloniki. There is also 5 times a week a barren route line connecting Limnos, Mitilini, Chios, Samos and Rhodes.

Skiathos is a small island in the Aegean Sea, which belongs to the Sporades islands. Located near Skopelos, Skiathos is the westernmost of this island group . The mainland of Greece, along with Magnesia are to the west. Its name goes back to ancient times.

The island has the city of Skiathos and the communities Koukounaries, Kanapitsa, Vromolimnos and Troullos. The city of Skiathos is a port that houses small boats and ferry services from where they connect to Skopelos, Volos, Agios Konstantinos and the rest of Greece.

The municipality of Skiathos includes the islands of Tsougria and Repio, and has a total area of 49898 square kilometres. Its major cities are Skiathos Kalývia , Troullos, and Koukounaries .
Much of the island is covered by forests. Around the villages and the city of Skiathos are farmland. Forests are pine, and are in the southeastern part of the island. The island of Skopelos and the most distant of Euboea and Skiros, are visible in favourable weather conditions. The top of the mountain, west, has a communications tower, and at its northern slope has several valleys.
Skiathos has about 70 beaches including a nudist beach at the southern tip of the island, at a place called Banana beach.
The island is linked to mainland Greece with sea routes to Thessaloniki, Volos and Agios Konstantinos and also with the rest of the Sporades with hydrofoils, tickets cost approximate 12 euro per person for Skopelos and 15 for Alonissos . There are also ferries for vehicles, but they are not regular at off-season . Skiathos has an airport in the northeast of the island, which has one of the shortest runways of Europe which measures only 1570 m .
There are roads to the south, east and northwest. There is only one highway that links the four settlements on the island.

Rhodes as well as Crete are the main tourism regions in Greece. The tourist season start from early May and goes up until the end of October. Tourism currently focuses rather on the northern half of the island, but slowly the south attracts more and more tourists .From Rhodes town and almost throughout the entire West coast until Ialysos there is a huge chain of hotels, nightclubs and bars. Most of the huge Rhodes hotels and accommodations are located on the north west part of the new town around the aquarium area.

The tourist centre of Rhodes is located on the east side of the island. This was due to climatic conditions, as on the west side is much stronger winds while the east side is protected . From north to the south is Rhodes has numerous small towns, which are now strongly influenced by tourism. Not far to the north-east are the thermal baths of Kallithea, reconstructed and re-opened last year. A little further south, finally, the region around Faliraki is the most tourist area of Rhodes. The place in the 70’s consisted of a small fishing village with a tavern, today you will find there many discos, bars, restaurants and other ways of entertainment and nightlife.

From Trianda you can get to Filerimos, and visit the ruins of Ialysos, which also is located there, and from where you can have a breathtaking view to the north tip of the island. On the west side of the island are the ruins of the ancient city of Kameiros while in the north-west of the island is located the Valley of the Butterflies. In this valley the butterfly Euplagia quadripunctaria , encountered in large numbers as well as the Harlequin butterfly. The reason for this huge number of butterflies is that this valley is the only one in Greece, where the Oriental Amber trees grow, which its smell of resin attracts those butterflies. The best time to visit the butterfly valley is from middle of June until September.

Monolithos in the south, right on the coast, is one of the three points at which the The Hospitaller Knights of St John defended the island. On a beacon of the rock, you van spot the ruins of an old Castle which was later became a monastery, today there is still a small chapel.

One of the most popular attractions of the island is the town of Lindos with the famous Acropolis. The city is marked by its many white houses, often decorated with pink Hibiskus flowers, small lanes and the many donkeys, who carry visitors to the Acropolis hill . The Acropolis of Lindos is after the Acropolis of Athens the most visited in Greece. Among other attractions is the St. Mary’s Church, with its numerous frescoes.

This group of small islands, includes the islands Kalapodia, Aspronisia, Frango, Plavi and other small islets of a total area of 23 square kilometres. The surface of the main island Lipsos is about 16 square kilometres. with a coast line of 35 km Because the island is small it is easy to go around walking. The island has taxi service and a bus.

In Lipsos there are some beautiful sandy beaches, such as Tourkomnima, Kamares, and Chochlakoura. In the small natural harbour is the main town with small white houses, taverns, coffee shops and restaurants and several hotels and rooms to let.

Greek ferries are connecting Lpsi with Piraeus and other islands of the Dodecanese. There are also connections with smaller Dodecanese ferries and hydrofoils with Patmos, Leros, Kos and Rhodes.
The people of Lipsi that have been immigrated abroad had made a lot of donations in that small island of the Dodecanese including roads, churches and parks.

Karpathos is the second in size after the Dodecanese island of Rhodes, Karpathos is one of the most remote and beautiful islands. Deserted almost from the immigration because many Carpathians emigrate mainly in Australia and America still maintains a strong tradition and keeps its rich history. Karpathos has a rich habitat and for this reason the island has protected areas of flora and fauna. In the Karpathos map we can see that the island is consisting of the Municipality of Karpathos, which includes settlements in the southern and central part of the island and the community department Olympus, which includes the northern part and the islets Saria and Hamili.

Karpathos is located in the middle of the Karpathian sea - which took its name from the island - between Rhodes and Crete and its capital is Pigadia or Karpathos. According to Homer Karpathos initially indicated that it was under the influence of the Minoans and later was a member of the Athenian alliance until 400 BC when it was occupied by the state of Rhodes. Later the island passed under the rule of the Romans and Byzantines, Arabs, Genoates, Venetians and the Ottoman Turks. During the first world war Karpathos was occupied by the Italians and finally united with Greece in 1948.

The rocky island of Karpathos used to be very green, it has high mountain peaks up to 1200 meters. The relief of the island gives the visitor landscapes of special natural beauty, combining the beauty of the mountains and the sea. Wonderful small bays with crystal water, formed along the east side of the island but with difficult access. In the north of the island extends the uninhabited island of Sharia..

This summer I wached the Eurovision 2008 in a Santorini hotel of the cosmopolitan island of Santorini. Santorini is regarded by many as one of the most beautiful sunsets in the world to see. Santorini is also known from the white houses with blue roofs and the beautiful black sand Santorini beaches, which are often listed on postcards and Greece travel guides and books. Santorini is, in essence, what remains of a huge volcanic explosion that destroyed the first existing settlements, blurring much of the territory of the former island and causing the creation of the current geological boiler. Its spectacular beauty, along with a lively Santorini nightlife, have become a major tourist destinations in Europe. Its buildings have an air east, with white houses and window frames and doors in blue, as can be found on the coast of Morocco or Tunisia. On the other hand, have also been criticisms made against the excessive and disorderly nature of its recent urban development. Despite the constant danger of the volcano, life is sweet and quiet Santorini. The Mediterranean climate is mild all year round, even in summer thanks to sea breezes. The cove at the centre of volcanic islands offer an anchor of natural protection against the wave of pleasure boats during the storms rare.
A giant central lagoon, more or less oval, and measures approximately 12 by 7 km, is surrounded on three sides by high cliffs about 300 meters high. The slopes of the island are descended from the top of the cliff to the surrounding Aegean Sea. In the fourth side, the lagoon is separated from the sea by a much smaller island called Therasia, the lagoon joins the sea by two sites, northwest and southwest. The waters in the middle of the lagoon have a depth of 400 metres, thus enabling navigation of all types of vessels. The ports of the island are all in the lagoon, and the capital, Fira, hanging from the top of the cliff on the slope going down to the lagoon.

It is the most active volcanic center of the volcanic arc of the southern Aegean, while what remains today is actually a boiler flooded. On the island took place one of the biggest volcanic eruptions in recent prehistory, which occurred about 3,500 years ago. The eruption left a huge boiler surrounded by deposits of volcanic ash and, according to some theories, could have indirectly caused the collapse of the Minoan civilization on the island of Crete, located 110 km south, causing a giant tsunami. Another theory holds that the eruption of Thira could be the main inspiration for the legend of Atlantis.

Leros, the island of the Greek godess Artemis, is a unique green island with beautiful scenery, lots of vegetation, green trees, valleys, pretty bites and beaches with houses and sights of great architectural style, traditional greek atmosphere and friendly people. Historic and cultural heritage can be seen in everyday day life and by visting Leros you will have unforgettable experiences that are only to be found on the Leros Island.

The island of Leros migh is a small island on the map of the Dodecanese but Leros History is very interesting , dayting back to the Ancient Greece History and the prehistoric period of Greece. Leros took part in the war of Troy with her ships joining the Greek expedition forces of King Agamemnon. During the Greek war of Independence the Lerians join forces with the rest of Greece to fight the Ottomans. Leros later on was unter Italian occupation until 1943 and unter Germans until the end of the secont world war. Finally became part of Greece in 1948. Since then the island developed financially and many Lerians of the diaspora help Leros.

Today Leros is a popular destination for holidays mostly for Greeks and Italian tourists. The tourim industry of Leros has become competitive to other islands of the Dodecanese, during the last 30 years have been build many luxury Leros Hotels in Alinda, Vromolithos, Xirokampos, Laki and Panteli. Also among other accommodations you will find rooms apartments, studios and a camp site. Leros has a lot of attractions and is mainly an island for family holidays in Greece. Leros does not have a crazy nightlife like the nighife in Kos but there are quite a few bars and clubs in Agia Marina,Panteli, Alinda and Lakki. In Leros you will find fresh fish in the local taverns and you will swimm and dive in beaches of Leros. If we look a Greece map we will notice that leros has an excelent possition for day trips because its located very near to the islands of Patmos, Lipsi, Kalymnos and Kos. Every day there are connections with those islands as well with Rhodes and of cource Athens and Piraeuss. Olympic airlines has daily flights to the island.
